Bedding the stalls

DSCN1164

The cow barns are cleaned and bedded twice every day.  The manure is removed from the alleys and fresh sawdust is added to the cows' mattresses.  The mattresses are best described as a dense memory foam material made to support a 1400 pound cow covered with a textured rubber.  The metal loops divide the long beds into individual stalls.  This type of barn is called a free stall barn.
